Spain still appeals to foreign buyers

Spain is still proving to be a highly popular destination among overseas property investors, according to new research.

A poll of prospective buyers by Country Life magazine found that more than one in ten respondents were thinking of entering the Spanish property market.

Meanwhile, more than one in four of those who already had purchased abroad said they had invested in the country.

The magazine partly attributed the popularity of Spain to the good transport links to the UK, as it was easy and affordable to reach.

In addition, the country's economic stability was highlighted as an attractive factor.

Penny Churchill, property correspondent at Country Life, added: "Most buyers have a simple desire to enjoy spending time in holiday homes in a country that offers an excellent climate and attractive lifestyle."

The study also showed that most investors were using their property as a holiday home, although others were found to be letting it out or keeping it as part of their retirement plan.

According to British newspaper the Telegraph, Spain is largely considered a "lifestyle destination" by foreign property buyers.
