VIENNA (Thomson Financial) - Austrian property developer Warimpex Finanz- und Beteiligungs AG said it plans to convert office buildings in Cracow and Budapest into hotels as part of a pilot project for its planned chain of budget hotels in Central Europe.

Together with French partner Louvre Group, Warimpex plans to invest up to 500 mln eur to develop more than 80 budget hotels for business travellers, Austrian business daily WirtschaftsBlatt cited chief executive Franz Jurkowitsch as saying.

Around 30 hotels with a development cost of approximately 150 mln eur will be built during the project's first phase, which will concentrate on the Polish, Czech, Hungarian and Slovak markets.
